Reflection of Brutal Celebration
Cities worldwide, including Dhaka, illuminate with New Year fireworks, but this tradition inflicts harm on nature. Firecrackers contain hazardous chemicals like 10% sulfur, 15% charcoal, and 75% potassium nitrate, releasing dangerous particles into the air. The loud explosions and bright lights harm birds, causing numerous deaths each year.
On January 2, 2021, hundreds of starlings were found dead in Rome's main railway station. The International Organization for the Protection of Animals (OIPA) condemns this as murder.
It's our moral duty to protect the planet and create conditions for birds to thrive. Let's reconsider our actions and prioritize essential changes.
